Sitting is Good

I'm sitting here, with a ziploc of ice on my leg. The bruise is progressing nicely - It seems to have spread, and the day of limping around favoring my hurt leg has made my OTHER thigh muscles hurt now too.

On the plus side, we called Josh today & he hijacked Cy&Isy’s minivan and we were able to get BOTH desks moved over – the big desk in the van, the little desk in the Scion.  Which just sucked. Because of the stairs thing. But getting the big desk down was relatively easy – we tied a rope around it, and lowered it from the 3rd floor balcony to the ground. At which point it was REALLY EASY to get it into the van. Much easier than carrying it down the stairs would have been.  Oh! And I got the goahead to toss a gutted (truly truly gutted) HP computer case. And like 3 dead power supplies. Which was fun, ‘cause I carried them down to the dumpster by their tails. I felt like I was carrying dead animals or something. (Which, depending on your views on electronic sentience…)

This is good – now that the last of the big stuff is gone I can really get down on finishing that place out. Last night I brought a carload of crap over, and got the bathroom as clean as its going to be.  Tonight I want to get the kitchen cleaned out, and bring back another carload of random crap.  I’m just undecided at this point whether I want the living room to be my staging area, or the bedroom… the bedroom is closer to the front door, but it also has a door, which means I could carry everything into the living room, clean the bedroom, & close the door indicating the room is FINISHED.

Tonight’s Goals?

1)       Clean out the refrigerator. Like, CLEAN clean. Scrubbed. Toss anything unjustified, bleach the heck out of things, turn it down to its lowest setting, & close the door.

2)       Empty the kitchen counters. INCLUDING the “breakfast bar” that we’ve never used as anything except a crap repository.

3)       Pack up everything clean in the dishwasher, and under the sink.

4)       Scrub the kitchen floor. Declare the kitchen DONE, and never set foot in it again.

We’ll see if I manage it.

Lookie! I'm posting with my phone! I am such a technoweenie.

And now for something completely different

I'm off the internet for 3 days. Whats the first thing I do? a bunch of Memes. Go figure.

The move went well. Better than any move so far. Got up way too early Thursday, got the truck. Loaded the truck with every single big item of furniture we had... bed, bookshelves, table, couch... Which was actually a pretty lightweight load, it was just bulky & awkward. Then, after the load of big stuff, came the load where we cleaned out our storage locker. Which filled up the living room completely. One day, 2 truckloads, and we're just about done. The only stuff left at the old place is the little crippy crap that you have the hardest time packing because you can't just throw it away, and none of it really goes together, so you don't want to just throw it all in boxes because then you're just creating jumbled boxes of crap that you'll never unpack.

You can tell i'm not looking forward to dealing with it all.

We moved the Lurker over on wednesday. He was kinda panicked about it - we took him on a scary car ride, then abandoned him in a scary new place - all his furniture was gone, his catfood dish was gone, and his people were leaving him. Leaving him! We could hear him roaming around upstairs, talking mournfully to the dustbunnies in the upstairs bedroom before he came back downstairs... I mean, you could tell he was really distressed. He wasn't even attacking our ankles or trying to bite hands. Didin't eat the wet food I put down for him! The world was truly about to end.

He's doing much better now though - he's back to his usual tricks, chasing his tennis balls around the house, pouncing at people, begging for wet food... biting, clawing, giving us disgusted looks. In between happily walking all over me when i'm in bed purring like a fiend. I'm still not sure if he's trying to get me to feed him, or if he's just a happy kitty & he's thanking me for getting him this HUGEMONGEOUS new house to play in. (I'm inclined to believe he's happy, because when he's begging for food he maintains a good foot in front of you as you stagger to the kitchen.) In this case he realizes you're awake & jumps up on the bed to purr & be petted.)

In other news, as time passes I'm noticing more & more ODD shit the previous owners had done in the name of decorating or household repairs. And replacing things they'd made off with. And cleaning stuff left filthy. Borrowed a steam cleaner from Aimee and did the carpets in the room slated to become the Electronics Dungeon - Much cleaner by the time we were done, and WOW did that thing pull up massive amounts of ICK. Holy cow. Then, the whole shower curtain rod thing? Had to hit walmart & spend $10 & get one. Freakachu helped me mount it, and I was able to take a shower finally without spraying water everywhere.

I'm also going to have some construction to do. I need a custom cabinet to go at the end of the counter, for all my cookbooks - the previous owners did the whole bracket shelving thing, which promptly collapsed under the weight of my little portable boombox. Little stereo was okay, but I took down those shelves & put in a set of teeny shelves I had to hold the stereo until I could build something custom with the lumber pieces I have on hand.

On top of everything else, tonight I have to return the steam cleaner to Aimee, pick up a computer from the old house & get it hooked up at the new house so I'm ready for the cable guy tuesday morning, and perhaps even run a load of stuff from the old house. Not sure about that part. I may just say screwit & deal with it later.

At least the living room isn't as drownded as it was before - Josh came over before work & helped me move a whole bunch of books upstairs & settle the TV into its spot on the corner entertainment unit. Which only pointed out how much I needed to construct the add-on for that unit to effectively support the weight of the tv.

House-Type blithering

Day after tomorrow I get the truck.

Tomorrow I’m off work so I can do that last-minute frantic packing thing.

Today I’m working.

As you may have already figured out, I’m moving.

Based on the experiences I’ve had the last few times I’ve moved, I am not looking forward to Thursday.  Its usually insane.

This time we got one of the smaller trucks, though, so a sense of accomplishment should be easier to achieve.  And the fact that I’ve been running loads back & forth nightly since we got the keys helps… and the large volume of stuff sitting in storage.  I’m going to have a small moment of fantasy where I think to myself, “If we get all the big stuff moved early enough, We’ll be able to get all the stuff out of storage before it closes at 11pm!”  Big fat “yeah right” there though. Fortunately everything in storage fits in the car.

But tomorrow? An entire day of packing… and perhaps running carloads of little stuff down… and no real goal beyond getting to sleep before midnight?
